In your group you are going to be creating a brochure or poster that is an "owner's manual" for people with adolescent brains. The object of the assignment is to explain to other teens how their brains are developing. Therefore, your poster or brochure should be clear about the info and easy to read. You can give examples, drawings, printed out images, whatever you need.
Divide up the responsibilities as you like, but you need to research and show data/information on the following areas of the brain:
(pre) frontal cortex
hippocampus
corpus callosum
(on the cellular level within the brain) axons as related to "synaptic pruning" and myelination
For EACH part of the brain, you will include information on how the adolescent brain is special and unique with respect to:
executive functioning (decision making or cost vs. benefit analysis)
need for peer interactions
plasticity
excitement seeking
AGAIN, remember that this needs to be readable and understandable by all, not just honors psych students. It should be useful information phrased very clearly and in an easy to read format.
You have a large piece of chart paper in front of you, please use it to make the brochure or poster. Yes, you may tape things to it.
Your collaboration is due at the end of class F. Note that these will be put on display.
